Best FPL Team 2026/27: Template Squad, Captain & GW1 Draft

TL;DR
The best FPL team for 2026/27 makes one big call and spends smart everywhere else, and you can check yours in seconds with a free Copilot Score. Haaland (£15.5m) is the captain and the one non-negotiable premium. From there the model funds a stacked midfield and a value defence to fit a legal 15 under £100m. Here is the template, the captain, and how to draft your XI this week.
“Build around Haaland and take the best value at every other position. One elite premium plus nailed enablers beats four big names and a broken bench.”
The season is under way, so this template is a starting point rather than a weekly answer. For the current gameweek, see GW4 tips.
The Best FPL Team 2026/27 (Template Squad)
The squad on the pitch above is a solver-built £100m team on my projected points. It makes one big call, Haaland as captain and your one non-negotiable premium, then spends smart everywhere else: a strong midfield, a value defence, and enabler goalkeepers.
Tap any player on the pitch for their projected points and stats, or step through the gameweeks. It respects every FPL rule: 2 keepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders, 3 forwards, and no more than 3 from one club, all inside £100m. The cheap defenders are your enabler bench, not your starters.
I ran the numbers on all 555 players. The team that wins your mini-league is not the one with the most big names. It is the one that fits Haaland and still keeps a playing bench.

Who to Captain in 2026/27
Haaland is the captain for the opening weeks, on the highest projected points of any forward in the game. Gameweek by gameweek the armband can still move, and right now Palmer leads Gameweek 4 on 6.9 xPts, so check the cards before the deadline. Vice-captain goes to whichever premium has the friendlier fixture: B.Fernandes, Palmer and Mbeumo are the usual candidates.
For this week's full captain ranking and the best differentials, see GW4 tips.
How to Build Your Draft This Week
- Lock your captain first (Haaland), then your one or two premium midfielders.
- Fund them with value: £5.0m defenders who start every week and £6.0m midfielders with real minutes.
- Do not pay up for a bench. Four playing £4.0m to £4.5m enablers beat one £5.5m sub.
- Check the fixtures before you commit. A £6.0m defender with three green opening fixtures outscores an £8.0m one facing three tough ones.
The Gameweek 1 deadline has passed, so transfers now cost a point beyond your free one. Build from this template with the solver rather than rebuilding by hand. For the calendar and opening fixtures, see the full 2026/27 preseason guide.
Copy It or Beat It
This template is a strong starting point, not gospel. The fastest way to a better squad is to let the solver build the optimal 15 for your exact budget and captain, then plan your transfers gameweek by gameweek from there.
