FPL Bench Boost GW2: Should You Play It?
August 23, 2026 · 4 min read
TL;DR
Gameweek 2 is a single gameweek. Every team plays once, so a Bench Boost in GW2 scores your four bench players for one match each, not two. That is the whole case against it, and it is why the chip is worth roughly half what it pays in a double.
“No double gameweek, no Bench Boost. Hold it for a week when your bench plays twice. Playing it now spends a chip for a fraction of its ceiling.”
Is Gameweek 2 a Double Gameweek?
No. All 20 teams play exactly once in Gameweek 2, and the same is true through Gameweek 6. There is no double and no blank in the opening stretch of 2026/27.
That matters because Bench Boost pays you for bench minutes. In a single gameweek your four bench players get one fixture each. In a double they get two, and the chip roughly doubles in value for the same cost.
What Is a Bench Boost Actually Worth in GW2?
The honest answer is: whatever your four cheapest players score in one match. For most squads that is a low number, because the bench is built from budget enablers who are there to fund your premiums.

- In a single gameweek, a typical Bench Boost returns roughly the sum of four budget players' single-fixture scores.
- In a double gameweek with a nailed bench, the same chip covers eight fixtures instead of four.
- The gap is the entire argument. Same chip, same cost, twice the return.
When Should You Bench Boost in 2026/27?
Wait for a double gameweek where all 15 of your players have two fixtures and your bench are genuine starters rather than 4.0m fodder. That combination is what turns Bench Boost from a throwaway into a rank-mover.
You get two Bench Boosts across the season, one per half, and the first expires at the Gameweek 19 deadline. There is time. Doubles typically appear once cup runs and postponements reshape the calendar, so the trigger is the fixture list, not the calendar date.
