What's the difference between a Wildcard and a Free Hit?

A Wildcard's changes are permanent; a Free Hit's last one gameweek and then your previous squad returns. The Free Hit gets you through a blank or double gameweek, the Wildcard rebuilds for the weeks ahead.

When should I play my Free Hit in FPL?

In a blank gameweek when several of your players have no fixture, or a double gameweek when a one-week squad of players with two fixtures beats your own. Do not use it to fix a squad that is wrong for the weeks ahead.

Do I lose my free transfers if I Free Hit?

No. The free transfers you have saved are kept when you play a Free Hit, the same as with a Wildcard: if you had two before the chip, you still have two the gameweek after, up to FPL's maximum of five.

How Does the Free Hit Work in FPL?

Unlimited free transfers for one gameweek. No transfer that week costs points, however many you make.
Your old squad comes back. After the gameweek, the squad you had before the Free Hit returns.
Two Free Hits a season. The first can be played from Gameweek 2 to 19 and the second from Gameweek 20 to 38. You cannot play it in Gameweek 1, and you cannot play one in Gameweek 19 and the next in Gameweek 20.
One chip per gameweek. You cannot play the Free Hit in the same gameweek as another chip.
Same budget, same limits. You pick within your team value, and the three-per-club limit still applies.
Your saved free transfers stay. Playing the Free Hit does not reset the free transfers you have banked: if you had two before it, you still have two the gameweek after.

When Should You Play Your Free Hit?

In a blank gameweek. When several of your players have no fixture, a one-week squad of players who do play rescues the week.
In a double gameweek. A one-week squad full of players with two fixtures, without breaking your team for the weeks after.
Not to fix your squad. A squad that is wrong for the next six weeks needs a Wildcard, because the Free Hit's changes disappear after one week.
Only starters. A one-week squad cannot wait for a benched player, so pick names the predicted lineups have in the XI.
