FPL Wildcard GW32: Should You Wildcard Now? Data From Real Squads

67.6% of FPL squads have GW32 as their optimal Wildcard gameweek. I ran the chip optimizer across hundreds of real squads — and the data is unusually clear on this one.

Here's what the numbers say and how to decide if WC32 is right for your team.

Why GW32 Is the Wildcard Sweet Spot

Three things align in GW32 that make it the most common optimal Wildcard timing:

  • GW33 is a double gameweek. Wildcarding in GW32 gives you a full week to build a squad loaded with GW33 doublers. You get the transfer window and the double — not just the double.
  • Bench Boost follows immediately. A WC32 squad rebuilt around doublers is the perfect setup for BB33. All 15 players you've hand-picked play twice the very next gameweek.
  • Fixture swing. GW32 represents one of the last points in the season where there's a meaningful difference between staying put and restructuring. After GW33, the remaining schedule tightens.

Wildcard Alone vs Wildcard + Bench Boost

The isolated value of a Wildcard is +16.5 points — the median gain from using it compared to playing no chip at all.

But the real value of WC32 is what it sets up:

  • WC32 alone: +24.7 pts median uplift
  • WC32 + BB33: +58 pts median uplift

The Wildcard without the Bench Boost is worth half as much. If you're planning to WC32, you almost certainly want BB33 as the follow-up. The two chips were designed to work together at exactly this point in the season.

The Full Chip Picture

The top chip strategy across squads with all chips remaining: WC32 + BB33 + FH34 + TC36.

Each chip targets a specific scenario in the final run-in:

  • WC32 — rebuild around the double. 67.6% optimal.
  • BB33 — cash in. All 15 doublers score. 47.1% optimal.
  • FH34 — blank gameweek cover. 62.9% optimal. Don't waste Free Hit on a double when you already have doublers.
  • TC36 — highest captaincy ceiling remaining. 16.7% (edges TC33 at 13.3%).

Should You Wildcard in GW32?

WC32 is right for you if:

  • You have 3+ players without GW33 fixtures (you need to restructure)
  • Your squad has significant damage — injuries, suspensions, poor form
  • You still have your Bench Boost and want to maximise the WC32+BB33 combo
  • You're targeting a rank push in the final GWs and need a fresh squad to do it

WC32 might not be right if:

  • You already have 8+ players with GW33 fixtures — you don't need to Wildcard to get doublers
  • Your Wildcard is better saved for a GW35+ fixture swing specific to your squad
  • You've already used your Wildcard this half of the season

The Bottom Line

70% of teams gain at least 40 points from optimal chip timing. The median uplift across all squads is +54.5 points from getting the chips right. That's the difference between a rank push and staying put — no extra transfers, no hits, just timing.

67.6% of squads land on WC32 as optimal. But 32.4% don't. Your squad composition, remaining chips, and current fixtures determine the right answer for you specifically.

FPL CopilotCreator's Tip
Run the chip optimizer before you Wildcard. It takes 30 seconds and tests every valid combination for your specific squad. The optimal timing for 67.6% of teams is WC32 — but you want to know if you're in that 67.6% before you pull the trigger.
