FPL Wildcard GW4: Best Draft and Template Squad
6 September 2026 · 4 min read
TL;DR
Playing your Wildcard in Gameweek 4? The deadline is Saturday 12 September at 1.30pm BST, and the squad above is a full rebuild on live projected points so you can draft against it rather than from a blank pitch. Wildcard means unlimited free transfers for one gameweek, and the squad you build is the one you keep.
“A Wildcard is worth playing when it changes six or more players. If your draft moves two or three, you are spending a season-defining chip to dodge a couple of hits.”
Building Your GW4 Wildcard Draft
Three gameweeks are in the books, so this is the first Wildcard window with real evidence behind it rather than preseason projection. Minutes have settled, the early price rises have happened, and you can see which summer signings have actually started.
- Draft for GW4 to GW9, not for Saturday. The squad stays with you, so the fixture run matters more than one week.
- Start from your keeps. List the players you would never sell, then build the rest around what is left.
- Fix the shape, not just the names. Most broken squads are broken structurally: too much money on the bench, or three players from one struggling side.
- Spend to the last 0.1. A Wildcard is the one time you can empty the bank without taking hits.
What GW4 Looks Like
Gameweek 4 is a single gameweek. All 20 teams play once, and Gameweeks 5, 6 and 7 are singles too, with no blanks and no doubles anywhere in that run. So there is no fixture swing to target here: this Wildcard is squad repair, not a double-gameweek play.
The fixture spread still matters for the draft. Chelsea host Hull, Liverpool host Fulham, Crystal Palace host Ipswich and Leeds host Newcastle, all at difficulty 2. Man Utd against Man City is the standout clash, and Sunderland against Arsenal is the toughest draw on the board. Use the fixture ticker to see which runs hold up beyond Saturday, because that is what your new squad is buying.
If your squad is functional and you are only chasing one or two moves, hold the chip. The second Wildcard unlocks in the second half of the season, but the first one is gone for good once you play it. For the wider plan see the chip strategy guide, and for this week's captain and transfers see the GW4 tips.
